Why Do We Gather to Worship?

The large-group gathering of believers has always been an important part of the Christian church, even tracing its roots back to God’s people gathering at the Tabernacle/Temple before Jesus came to Earth. What’s the purpose of gathering in corporate worship? What benefits do we get from not just attending, but participating in it?
